Sherpini Col Pass trekking is renowned as the world’s most difficult and challenging pass trek, exclusively for experienced hikers or climbers. Starting from Lukla or Tumlingtar, the trek leads into the highest valley globally, embarking on a journey to the base of Mt. Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain (8,481m). The route encompasses diverse landscapes, from cloud-forest jungles and high alpine terrain to orchids, rural farms, and market villages. Crossing Sherpini Col Pass, trekkers traverse yak pastures toward the vast ice fields of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse, and Sherpani Col.
The lower regions are inhabited by Rai, Sherpa, and Shingsawa (Bhotia) farmers, who play a crucial role in preserving the area’s unique biological and cultural resources. The forests are home to endangered species like the red panda, musk deer, Ghoral, Himalayan Tahr, leopard, and over 400 bird species, including at least 16 that are extremely rare.
